Family Reunion Updates - Feb 2011

Greetings,

Well, things are moving ahead nicely. So far we have the date, June 25^th, the place, The Polish American Club in Newington, CT., the food service, Michaels Catering, and I just booked the DJ, CnT Entertainment. My niece Kati’s husband Tom has volunteered to take photos of the event (digital) so we can download them and create a CD for those who want one. Thanks Kati and Tom for volunteering to do this. All that we need now is YOU!!

I will be sending out the “electronic invitations” around the 1^st of April (paper ones to those not on my e-mail list), with the details, but I’ve listed the tentative Agenda below:

Family Member Reunion “Meet & Greet” 2:00 – 4:00 PM

Dinner served 4:00 – 5:00 PM

DJ 6:00 – 10:00 PM

(The DJ will be setting up between 5 and 6, so he will be playing some background music during this time for us while we finish dinner.

The DJ told me that we can bring CD’s of our favorite Polka music if we want, and he will mix it in. Also, he sent me a link to their web site where they have set up an “account” for The Rickis Family Reunion. The Family Reunion site contains a “Play List” area where we can go in and put songs on the list that we would like him to play. I’ll pass that info along a little later on. (I want to go out and try it first before I send anything out).

I have also heard from a couple of different folks who told me that they have run into some family members who are not aware of the reunion. If this happens, please, please, please give them my contact information and I will make sure they get the reunion information.

Also, please forward any information you already have about the reunion to any and all family members you know, who are not on my e-mail distribution list (and send me their e-mail address). You can also point them to The Rickis Family Web Site that Tim has created. He is keeping this up to date and has included the Reunion information.

Also, if you are aware of any family members that have recently changed their e-mail information please ask them to let me know so I can update my database.

Family Reunion Updates...

Greetings and Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year. Ellen and I were quite busy over this holiday season. We spent the Thanksgiving holiday with her father and family in Bellingham, Washington. Our oldest son Ken was able to come up from California and join us this year, as well as our younger son Chris with his wife Christine and our three grandchildren. It was a real treat to have both boys with us. We then spent the Christmas and New Year holidays in Portland, Oregon with Chris, Christine, and the grandchildren. Because we live in Florida most of the year we don’t get to see the grandchildren that often, so being able to spend a lot of time with them over Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years was a real Christmas blessing.

We are now back in Florida, and with the holidays behind us, can focus our attention on the upcoming Family Reunion. The reunion is less that 6 months away, and I think we got a pretty good start on the event. We have the date set, June 25^th; we have the location set, the Polish American Club in Newington, Connecticut, and the food service, Michaels Catering. What we now need to do is to put together a set-up/decorating/clean-up committee and decide on what kind of entertaining we want (if any).

For the set up and decorating activity we will accept any and all suggestions, as well as anyone who would like to volunteer to help. We have the hall beginning at 10:00 AM so we will probably start setting up and decorating at that time. Not sure when the actual reunion will start but I’m assuming it will be mid to late afternoon.

As far as entertainment goes, I told Ellen I could bring my guitar and sing folk songs from the 60’s and 70’s but I got that “over my dead body” look, so I guess that’s out. My other thought was to hire a DJ who could play not only Polish music, but some other stuff as well. If anyone knows of some who could do this, or would be willing to participate on an entertainment committee please let me know. As with the decorating, any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

That’s about it for now. I hope I get to see all of you at the reunion on June 25^th. And don’t forget to visit the Rickis Family Web Site. Tim Rickis had done an amazing job in setting this up and keeping it updated with new photos and information as he receives it. Thanks again Tim for doing this.

Family Reunion Updates...

Greetings,

Well things are coming together. Mark your calendars!!!! We now have a date, time and place.

The Reunion is set for June 25th, 2011 (the last Saturday in June).

The place is the Polish American Club in Newington, CT. The banquet room at The Polish National Home

was not large enough, based on an estimate of 100 people attending the reunion. They could only handle

about 50 people in their banquet room. The hall at the Polish American Club can handle 175 people.

The event will be catered by Michael's Catering, a dinner buffet with a standard Polish menu

(Kielbasa and Sauerkraut, Stuffed Cabbage, Roasted Potatoes, Cheese Pierogies, etc.) I

checked several other places and they are all about the same cost and Michael's comes

recommended by my brother Albert's neighbor. I was in Connecticut over the 4th of July

and met with Michael. He seems like a straight shooter so I felt good going with him.

We have the hall from 10:00 AM on Saturday until 1:00 AM on Sunday (not that I expect any of us to be

there that long).

As far as cost goes, we won't know the exact figure until we know exactly how many will attend, but we

needed to start somewhere, so I based the costs on an estimate of 100 people which will be

around $30.00 per person. This includes the cost of the meal plus the hall rental.

Other things that we might want to consider which may impact the cost are such things as a band, (perhaps we

can get by with a CD played and some Polka CD's), decorations, a Photographer...that sort of thing.

In any case, we will be working on the details over the next several weeks, but I just wanted to get this

out to you so you can start making plans. If any of you have any suggestions please feel free to send them

along.

A more formal invitation will be coming shortly.

I know we are really getting excited about this Reunion.

To blog or not to blog???

I figured this may be a better way to share misc information about the family, instead of trying to capture it all on the home page. We'll see how it goes. This web site has been an adventure for sure, and it's given me the unique opportunity to connect with many relatives I've never even spoken to, some of who I never knew existed! It's been fun - like a big ongoing mystery, but I suppose most families are right? I appreciate everyone's input throughout the past months - keep it coming!
